Pankaj gained a First Class Honours from South Bank University, then worked with Andrew Taylor at MacCormac Jamieson Prichard on projects including Worcester College Oxford, Paternoster Square and the Spitalfields Development.
His interests lie within the integration of architecture, urban design and landscape. He overviews the inception of many of the projects and has led a variety of masterplanning, architecture and landscape projects. Pankaj is currently lead partner of several mixed-use and residential projects where his expertise in negotiating complex planning consents has been successfully utilised.
He sits on the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) Design Review Panel, has advised the Government Office for London, Greater London Authority and Arts Lottery Design Panel, as well as acting as a RIBA Awards Assessor. Recently Pankaj has been invited to join the Urban Design Forum and the Olympic Delivery Agency Review Panel.
Pankaj has been a senior lecturer at South Bank University, and held a visiting lectureship at Edinburgh University. He is currently an external examiner at Sheffield University and a visiting Professor at the Welsh School of Architecture. Pankaj was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List of 2006.

Andrew studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture then worked at MacCormac Jamieson Prichard on projects including Fitzwilliam College Chapel and Trinity College, Cambridge.
Andrew established Patel Taylor with Pankaj Patel in 1989 while also tutoring at the Bartlett. Early competition successes for the practice included masterplans for Antwerp Docks, Belgium and Chateauroux, France.
The practice’s major breakthrough came in 1994 with the Ayr Citadel project, a complex masterplan for which Andrew was lead partner. He was recently the partner-in-charge of Thames Barrier Park, the Performing Arts Department in Aberystwyth, and Benslow Music School in Hertfordshire. More recently he has led the team on the Ashton-under-Lyne Market and Silvertown Quays.
Andrew has been a visiting critic and lecturer at various schools of architecture, and has acted as an external examiner at the Welsh School of Architecture, where he is currently a visiting Professor. He has lectured on the practice’s work in Japan, Spain, France, Holland and Ireland. In 1997 Andrew was shortlisted for the Young Architect of the Year. He is a member of CABE’s Enabling Panel, an assessor for RIBA Competitions, Civic Trust and RIBA Awards.
