Patel Taylor win Eastside City Park project

Patel Taylor with Allain Provost have been announced as the design team to take forward the creation of Birmingham’s first new City Park for over a century.
Patel Taylor were selected by an expert judging panel chaired by John Sorrell, Chairman of CABE, the government’s design advisory body. They won out from a field of six international practices which got through to the second stage of a global design competition for the park launched earlier this year.
Councillor Hardeman said, “Creating a new City Park in Eastside is a top priority for the City Council. It has been a key cornerstone of the Eastside vision from the outset, and has been significant in attracting major developers to invest in the area. As a member of the judging panel I can say that we had a difficult task choosing from the high quality concept designs that were submitted to illustrate each practice’s approach to delivering the park in what is a very challenging space. Patel Taylor’s approach convinced us that they have the capacity to deliver a stunning, new park for our city. They have an excellent track record of delivering major public open space projects in the UK and France, and it is a coup for Birmingham to have Allain Provost working on our scheme.”
The park design is composed of three interconnected gardens forming a centrepiece to Eastside and connecting it to the core of the city.
Andrew Taylor of Patel Taylor said, “Birmingham has shown great vision, our park represents a new piece of city infrastructure which will brand Eastside and create a focus for residents and visitors alike. It is a great promise, and our team look forward to working with Birmingham City Council to deliver it.”
