"Reconciling brief, budget and site"

In response to the existing monumental campus architecture, the design for this new department is conceived of a single mass cut into the hillside and incised with a single cut. With a programme of large windowless rehearsal spaces all activity is focussed on this routeway. Top lit, it frames a view to Cardigan Bay. Notwithstanding the complexity of brief and site, the building was delivered on a very modest budget.
