"Creating a civic heart"

Following a fire in the Victorian Market Hall, and continuing our work on the Ashton Town Framework Study, Patel Taylor were commissioned to develop options and recommend a proposal for the market redevelopment. The adopted strategy places a new civic market and square at the heart of the town; a loggia connects the indoor and outdoor market and creates a sheltered edge of activity.

The concept brings forward a major holistic piece of three-dimensional urban design creating a place which is linked and animated, uniting new and existing architecture.
