Private House

Oxford

A sensitive grafting of new onto old helped to secure planning consent for this conversion of a large 10,000 sq ft detached house in the centre of an Oxford Conservation Area. The landscape unifies buildings and site. The layout includes entrance court, double-height hall, and a living space leading to the garden, with a pool, pool house and a ‘garden of contemplation’. The materials used help unite while also defining the spaces, and include Portland stone, concrete, walnut and corten steel.
